AOC criticizes NYPD's new robot dog
FOX News contributor Miranda Devine and OutKick founder Clay Travis weigh in on'Fox News @ Night.' Democrat firebrand Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., claimed that the New York City Police Department's (NYPD) new robot dog is "being deployed for testing on low-income communities of color with under-resourced schools." On Thursday, Ocasio-Cortez -- a member of the left-wing "Squad" -- blasted the NYPD's new "Digidog" on Twitter two days after the cyber hound was filmed responding to a break-in and barricade situation in the Bronx. "Shout out to everyone who fought against community advocates who demanded these resources go to investments like school counseling instead," the congresswoman wrote on Twitter, linking to a story about the robo-dog. "Now robotic surveillance ground drones are being deployed for testing on low-income communities of color with under-resourced schools," she added. "Please ask yourself: when was the last time you saw next-generation, world class technology for education, healthcare, housing, etc consistently prioritized for underserved communities like this?" she added in a second tweet.

New robot dogs can deliver your lunch right to your desk
What does an autonomous delivery bot do when it encounters a set of stairs in its path? Automotive corporation Continental teamed up with startup ANYbotics to combine the mobility of a four-legged, Boston Dynamics-style robot dog with an autonomous delivery vehicle. The result, which it showed off in a live demo at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week, comes across either as a "Black Mirror" episode -- or a vision of the future of delivery. The concept is an unusual one: an autonomous vehicle pulls up to an address and spits out one or more (the press release isn't entirely clear) smaller quadripedal robot dogs, which ANYbotics calls "ANYmals," to complete the delivery. During a live demo, the robot dogs climbed stairs and even rang a doorbell.
Sony's Pet Project, a New Robot Dog, to Be Unleashed Soon
Sony Chief Executive Kazuo Hirai said last year at a strategy briefing that the company was developing "a robot capable of forming an emotional bond with customers, and able to grow to inspire love and affection." He told The Wall Street Journal at the time that the company might make an Aibo-like dog robot. The Nikkei newspaper reported earlier this month that Sony was targeting spring 2018 for the release of a home robot. The robot project is one of Mr. Hirai's initiatives to show that innovation is alive at the Japanese electronics maker, which was known for a string of hits going back to the transistor radio in the 1950s but has more recently focused on shoring up profitability by shrinking its portfolio. More than 100 employees are involved in Sony's robotics projects, said people familiar with them.
